Living in the City of Light

It has been almost one month since my move to Paris. And it has been one of the best months of my life. Everyday I wake up feeling like the luckiest girl on earth. I am living my dream. I almost expect it all to be a dream and that reality will wake me up any moment. But thankfully, that hasn't happened yet.

The last month has been a whirlwind of school, food, friends, and great red wine. I have tried to maintain a balance between enjoying the city and getting my school work finished. Luckily, the dreary weather has helped me accomplish some extra school work. But when the sun is shining, I have enjoyed many walks and strolls around the city.

Last week, in defiance of our school work and in taking advantage of the sunshine, my roommate Michele and I strolled around Paris for a couple hours; just talking, walking and eating falafels and crepes. Our discussion revolved around the importance of this time in our lives and the memories of this special time living in Paris. We both concluded that this is one of the high points in our lives. We have so much freedom to live and spend our days as we choose. C'est la belle vie!

I live in the 13th district of Paris and have an incredible flat! It's a typical Haussman style building with hardwood floors and beautiful crown moulding on the ceiling. I have my own bedroom that overlooks a variety of markets including a bakery, meat shop, flower shop and more. My roommates from Canterbury all live within the same area and it's been great to get together often for roomie dinners.

Just in one month, I have acquired the rich cultural experience I have always desired. Throughout my life I will always have this experience to look back on with fond memories. Already, I made memories for a lifetime and plan to make many more during my stay here in the city of light!

Schmitt's Canterbury Tales

The time has almost come for my departure from Canterbury. I have called this sweet town home for several months now and have grown quite fond of it. But like all good things, it has come to an end. I am most thankful for the incredible memories I have made here during this term. I look forward to making many more great memories with my friends in Paris next year!
